If making an online submission, you can use<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/foodirradiationwatch.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/Labelling-Review-ONLINE-QUESTIONNAIRE-sample-responses-complete.docx\" target=\"_blank\"> this document<\/a><\/strong> to review sample answers to the 24 questions<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Please take the time to fill out the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/friendsoftheearthmelbourne.good.do\/keep-labels-on-irradiated-foods\/emailfsanznow\/\" target=\"_blank\">Do Gooder<\/a><\/strong> page. Feel free to use the <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/foodirradiationwatch.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/2016-letter-re-food-labelling-review-short.doc\" target=\"_blank\">sample letter<\/a><\/strong> in your\u00a0comment in whole or part. \u00a0If sending your own submission, also send a\u00a0copy to your state or territory\u2019s representative on the Food Ministerial Council (<strong><a href=\"#list\">contact details can be found below<\/a><\/strong>). Each state or territory\u2019s representative has the power to approve or block regulatory decisions.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Below are some points you might want to include:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Despite their appearance, irradiated fruits and vegetables are processed, not fresh.<\/li>\n<li>As irradiation is invisible, without labelling, consumers will have no way to discern whether or not a product has been irradiated. Consumers will be misled into believing irradiated food is fresh or unprocessed.<\/li>\n<li>Consumers have strong opinions on irradiated produce and expect it to be labelled.<\/li>\n<li>Irradiation is still a new technology with a limited history of safe use in the human food supply.<\/li>\n<li>Removal of labelling will disadvantage non-irradiating producers and people who choose to eat irradiation-free.<\/li>\n<li>FSANZ and food producers are aware of consumer resistance to irradiated food.<\/li>\n<li>Removing labelling to boost sales of irradiated food would be deceitful.<\/li>\n<li>Australian &amp; New Zealand labelling requirements already fall short of global standards.<\/li>\n<li>Labelling requirements should be strengthened to meet global standards &amp; address community concern. Each state has at least one STATE MP on the Council. Let the ministers and decision makers know how you feel about irradiation labeling to help make a decision in favour of shoppers\u2019 rights. Please send your message to your state or territory\u2019s members as well as federal reps.<\/p>\n<p>Membership of the Australia and New Zealand Ministerial Forum on Food Regulation (the Forum) Membership of the Forum comprises a Minister from New Zealand and Health Ministers from Australian States and Territories, the Australian Government, as well as other Ministers from related portfolios (Primary Industries, Consumer Affairs etc) where these have been nominated by their jurisdictions.
